Introducing our exquisite rug, an authentic Afghani piece with a design known as Bakshaish Willow. This tribal-style rug showcases a captivating ocean background, complemented by a coral border.
The rug's origin lies in Afghanistan, specifically the Esari subtribe, where skilled Turkmen weavers craft it using traditional methods. The wool utilized comes from sheep in the Ghazni Province, renowned for its high-quality and longer staple oily fibers ideal for carpet weaving. This raw Ghazni wool travels to the western side of Afghanistan, where it is meticulously hand-carted and spun into carpet yarn.
Every rug is expertly woven on traditional floor looms, often within the weavers' homes or through cottage industry production. Employing an asymmetrical "Persian" knot type, the intricate knots ensure durability and longevity. The warp and weft consist of cotton, while the pile itself is composed of wool. The double wefted construction, combined with heavily packed and depressed warp weaving, guarantees that these handwoven carpets remain robust throughout the years.
Adding to its allure are the centuries-old, all-natural dye stuffs used to color this rug. The stunning blue hue is derived from natural indigo dye, sourced from the leaves of the indigo plant (indigofera tinctoria). This ancient dye has been cherished for thousands of years and has been globally revered for producing vibrant blue shades.
Our rug boasts a respectable knots per square inch (KPSI) of 80, showcasing the meticulous craftsmanship. Based on our KPSI calculation, this particular rug features an impressive total of 913,931 individually hand-tied knots.
Impressively sized at 8'2" x 9'10" and crafted using wool on cotton, this new Afghani rug is a testament to timeless beauty and exceptional artistry.
