Description

Introducing a remarkable rug from Pakistan, showcasing the exquisite Ferahan design with a tribal touch. The background of this rug captivates with a deep navy hue, harmoniously contrasting with a rust-colored border. Its main color, a captivating blue, enhances the overall appeal. Crafted from wool on a cotton base, this rug boasts a sturdy and durable composition.

Measuring at 9'0" by 12'2", this rug showcases the craftsmanship of ethnic Turkmen weavers, predominantly from the Esari Subtribe. The wool used in this piece comes from sheep in the Ghazni Province of South East Afghanistan, where the mountainous terrain naturally provides longer staple, oily, and higher quality wool for carpet weaving. This raw Ghazni wool is then transported to the western side of Afghanistan, around Herat, where it undergoes the meticulous process of hand carding and spinning into carpet yarn.

With an asymmetrical "Persian" knot type, this rug combines a cotton warp and weft with a wool pile. The double-wefted, heavily packed depressed warp weaving technique adds to the rug's durability. Reflecting centuries-old traditions, the rug is dyed using all-natural dye stuffs, ensuring a vibrant and long-lasting color palette.

Many of these rugs are woven in Aqucha and Mazar Sharif, utilizing a two-ply yarn per knot. The striking blue color in this particular rug can be attributed to natural indigo dye stuffs. Obtained from the leaves of the indigo plant (indigofera tinctoria), natural indigo dyes have a history dating back thousands of years. Their vibrant blue hues have been utilized in various cultures worldwide.

Impressively, this rug has a knots per square inch (KPSI) of 80, resulting in a total of 1,246,186 individually hand-tied knots. The meticulous craftsmanship and attention to detail make this rug a true work of art.

In summary, this Pakistani rug with a Ferahan design epitomizes the beauty and skill of tribal craftsmanship. With its navy background and rust border, complemented by a captivating blue main color, this rug will be a stunning addition to any space. Crafted from wool on a cotton base, it is not only aesthetically pleasing but also durable. Its story is a testament to the rich heritage of ethnic Turkmen weavers and the traditional techniques used in its creation.
