Description

Originating from India, this contemporary style rug is designed with an Illusion pattern that subtly play on visuals. Predominantly red in color, it also boasts a gala background which adds to its overall appeal. Measuring a substantial 12' X 15', the rug is new and features a wool on cotton composition.

The rug presents a unique textured appearance dominated by a deep slate-gray or charcoal color, possibly with undertones that contribute to a slight heathered or mottled effect. This color scheme and texture introduce sophistication and versatility to the rug, making it suitable for a broad range of interior design styles.

The visible texture of the rug is formed through a combination of horizontal linear patterns created through alternation between two distinct weaving styles or pile heights. The primary texture features tightly woven rows inducing a flat and compact look, interspersed with broader bands detailing a ribbed or grooved texture. This pattern of textures contributes to the contemporary feel of the rug, adding a tactile dimension to it without overwhelming with complexity.

The rug's edges are meticulously finished with a clean border that accentuates the design and projects the quality of craftsmanship. Its uniform color and simple yet elegant textured design enable it to function as both a subtle statement piece and background accent to multiple room styles and furnishings.

The rug's background concept is relatively new, initiated by Teddy Sumner of Michaelian & Kohlberg, starting with a "Grass" product. Its design consists of tonal patterns that mimic small blades of grass, sometimes using one or two tones. However, the utilization of natural dye stuffs allows for multiple shadings in the same color, also referred to as abrash. Major production of these rugs is undertaken in Agra, India.

The production process pays special attention to the differences between single and two-ply yarns, dyeing processes, and distinct weaving techniques. As an asymmetrical Persian knot rug, it carries unique character and origins making it attractive in the marketplace; factors emphasized in its marketing and appeal to customers.

Inspired by fields of tall, rustling grasses, the rug's Illusion design induces a sense of calm through soothing images of fade-away horizons and undulating grain rows. Handmade for durability, its all-wool pile is soft to the touch. Adherence to traditional Indian carpet weaving, specifically associated with Agra rugs, adds historical depth and grounding to the rug.
