Description

Introducing our exquisite rug, originating from Afghanistan, with a captivating design known as Khotan Garden. This traditional-style rug features a medium blue background and a lavender border, creating a stunning contrast that will surely enhance any space.

Crafted using high-quality materials, this rug boasts a wool pile on a cotton foundation, ensuring both comfort and durability. The size of this magnificent piece is 10'0" x 13'7", making it a truly remarkable addition to any room.

The skilled ethnic Turkmen weavers, particularly from the Esari Subtribe, have intricately created this masterpiece. They sourced the wool from sheep in the Ghazni Province of Southeast Afghanistan, renowned for producing long staple, oily wool ideal for carpet weaving. Afterward, the Ghazni wool is taken to Herat, where it is hand carted and spun into carpet yarn, ready to be transformed into a stunning rug.

The weaving process took place on traditional floor looms, predominantly within people's homes, embracing a cottage industry type production. With an asymmetrical "Persian" knot type and a cotton warp and weft, this rug exhibits exceptional craftsmanship. The double wefted heavily packed depressed warp weaving technique ensures its long-lasting durability, making it one of the most robust handwoven carpets available.

Embracing centuries-old traditions, this rug utilizes all-natural dye stuffs. In the case of the blue hue, the color is derived from natural indigo dye stuffs. The indigo plant's leaves, scientifically known as indigofera tinctoria or true indigo, produce this dye. These natural indigo dyes have been used by humans for thousands of years, admired for their ability to create vibrant shades of blue.

With 80 knots per square inch and a remarkable 1,545,870 individually hand-tied knots in total, this rug showcases the dedication and precision of its creators.

Immerse yourself in the rich history and artistry of this Afghan rug, an exquisite testament to traditional craftsmanship and timeless beauty.
