Introducing a Stunning Afghan Khotan Traditional Rug

This exquisite rug originates from Afghanistan, specifically the mountainous terrain of the Ghazni Province in Southeast Afghanistan. The wool used in this rug is sourced from sheep in this region, known for producing longer staple, oily, and higher quality wool ideal for carpet weaving. The raw Ghazni wool is then transported to Herat, where it is hand carted and spun into carpet yarn.

Crafted by ethnic Turkmen weavers, mostly from the Esari Subtribe, this rug showcases the traditional Khotan design. The background is a rich blue, accented by a beige border, creating a captivating contrast. The main color of the rug is also blue, offering a soothing and serene ambiance to any space.

Skillfully woven on traditional floor looms in the weavers' own homes, this rug exemplifies the cottage industry production style. It features an asymmetrical "Persian" knot type, ensuring strength and durability. The wool pile is meticulously hand-tied onto a cotton warp and weft, with a double wefted heavily packed depressed warp weaving technique, resulting in a robust and long-lasting carpet.

One of the most remarkable aspects of this rug is its use of centuries-old all-natural dye stuffs. The captivating blue hue is derived from natural indigo dye, obtained from the leaves of the indigo plant. Known for its vibrant and timeless appeal, natural indigo dye has been used by various cultures for thousands of years.

With a knots per square inch (KPSI) of 80, this rug exhibits exceptional craftsmanship. We have calculated that it contains a total of 1,577,876 individually hand-tied knots, a testament to the meticulous attention to detail invested by the weavers.

Whether you are a rug enthusiast, a collector, or simply someone seeking to enhance the beauty of your space, this Afghan Khotan Traditional Rug is a truly remarkable piece.
