The origins of this rug trace back to the skilled ethnic Turkmen weavers, predominantly from the Esari Subtribe. The wool used in this masterpiece comes from sheep in the Ghazni Province of South East Afghanistan, renowned for its mountainous terrain that yields longer staple oily higher quality wool suited for carpet weaving.

The raw Ghazni wool is transported to the western side of Afghanistan, around Herat, where it is meticulously hand carted and spun into carpet yarn. Using traditional floor looms, the weavers in their homes and cottage industries bring this rug to life. Employing an asymmetrical "Persian" knot type and a cotton warp and weft (with an all wool pile), this rug enjoys double-wefted, heavily packed depressed warp weaving, ensuring exceptional durability.

The skilled weavers from the Karam Kul district of Andkhoi have contributed to the creation of this rug, known for their expertise in achieving higher knot count weaving. The yarn used in this rug is hand-spun, utilizing single-ply pern knot yarn.

The captivating blue hues in this rug derive from natural indigo dye stuffs. Indigo, sourced from the leaves of the indigo plant, has been a prized dye for thousands of years, providing vibrant blues that have made their mark on various cultures around the world.

With a density of 104 knots per square inch, this rug showcases the meticulous attention to detail and craftsmanship put into its creation. After careful calculations, we have determined that there are 229,159 individually hand-tied knots in this exceptional piece.
