Description

Presenting an exquisite Afghani rug from our collection, this unique piece showcases the design influences of the Mamluk style, with a tribal touch. The background color of this rug is a warm camel hue, perfectly complemented by a rust-colored border. The main color palette features a beautiful beige tone, effortlessly enhancing the overall aesthetic.

Crafted by skilled ethnic Turkmen weavers, predominantly from the Esari Subtribe, this rug embodies the richness of tradition and heritage. The wool used in this masterpiece is sourced from sheep in the Ghazni Province of South East Afghanistan, where the mountainous terrain fosters the growth of longer staple, oily, and higher quality wool. This raw Ghazni wool is then transported to the western side of Afghanistan, around Herat, where it undergoes hand carting and hand spinning to transform it into carpet yarn.

The weaving process takes place on traditional floor looms, primarily within the weaver's own homes. This cottage industry-style production adds a sense of authenticity and uniqueness to each rug. The weaving technique employed is an asymmetrical "Persian" knot type, with a cotton warp and weft supporting the wool pile. Additionally, the double wefted heavily packed depressed warp weaving technique ensures exceptional durability, ensuring that this rug will withstand the test of time.

What truly makes this rug remarkable is its use of centuries-old all-natural dye stuffs. The colors are derived from age-old techniques, providing an organic and timeless appeal to the rug's design.

Most of these rugs are woven in Aqucha and Mazar Sharif, utilizing two-ply yarn per knot, with a knots per square inch (KPSI) of 80. Based on our calculations, this rug boasts a staggering 1,145,179 individually hand-tied knots, showcasing the dedication and craftsmanship poured into its creation.

Measuring at 8'9" x 11'6", this rug is a testament to the artistry and skill of Afghan weavers. Its intricate design, combined with the exceptional craftsmanship and high-quality materials, makes it a truly remarkable addition to any space.
