Description

Introducing our exquisite rug from Afghanistan, this stunning piece showcases the intricate beauty of Mamluk design with a tribal touch. With its olive background and rust border, this rug exudes a sense of traditional charm.

Crafted by skilled ethnic Turkmen weavers, primarily from the Esari Subtribe, this rug is made using the finest wool sourced from sheep in the Ghazni Province of South East Afghanistan. The mountainous terrain in this region naturally yields longer staple, oily, higher quality wool, perfect for carpet weaving.

The raw Ghazni wool is then transported to the western side of Afghanistan, around Herat, where it undergoes the painstaking process of hand carding and hand spinning into carpet yarn. This ensures the utmost care is taken to preserve the quality and integrity of the wool.

Woven on traditional floor looms in the weavers' own homes, this rug represents the essence of a cottage industry type production. The asymmetrical "Persian" knot type is used, resulting in a durable and long-lasting rug. The cotton warp and weft provide a sturdy foundation, while the all-wool pile adds plushness and softness to the touch.

What sets this rug apart is its use of centuries-old, all-natural dye stuffs. The vibrant colors found in this rug are a testament to the skill and expertise of the weavers, who have mastered the art of color creation through traditional dyeing methods.

This particular rug measures 2'0" x 4'11" and boasts a knot density of 80 knots per square inch. Based on this measurement, we have calculated a remarkable total of 111,910 individually hand-tied knots in this rug.

Immerse yourself in the rich cultural heritage of Afghanistan with this exceptional tribal rug. Its timeless design, meticulous craftsmanship, and superior quality make it a prized addition to any space.
