Description

Introducing our exquisite rug from Afghanistan, featuring a captivating design known as Serapi. This transitional style rug showcases a stunning ivory background, perfectly accentuated by a light blue border. The main color of this rug is also ivory, adding to its elegant appeal.

Crafted with the utmost care and attention to detail, this rug is made from wool on cotton, ensuring both comfort and durability. Its size measures 8'2" in width and 11'6" in length, making it a versatile addition to any space.

Hailing from Afghanistan, the wool used in this rug comes from sheep in the Ghazni Province, renowned for producing high-quality wool due to its mountainous terrain. The raw Ghazni wool is then brought to the western side of Afghanistan, where it undergoes hand carting and hand spinning processes to transform it into carpet yarn.

Ethnic Turkmen weavers, primarily from the Esari Subtribe, skillfully weave this rug on traditional floor looms in their own homes, showcasing the rich heritage and craftsmanship of Afghan rug weaving. The use of asymmetrical "Persian" knot type and double-wefted, heavily packed depressed warp weaving ensures the utmost durability in this handwoven masterpiece.

This rug also boasts the timeless beauty of all-natural dyes. Centuries-old dye stuffs sourced from nature create its vibrant hues, with the color blue derived from natural indigo dye. Indigo, an ancient dye dating back thousands of years, is derived from the leaves of the indigo plant and has been widely used worldwide to achieve captivating blue tones.

Measuring a remarkable 162 knots per square inch, our rug showcases meticulous craftsmanship. With this calculation, we estimate that a total of 2,181,303 individual knots are beautifully hand-tied in this exceptional piece.

Experience the allure and artistry of this Afghan Serapi rug, meticulously crafted with ancient techniques and showcasing the timeless beauty of natural dyes. Add a touch of elegance and sophistication to your space with this remarkable centerpiece.
