Introducing our exquisite new Afghani rug, featuring the captivating Shahsevan Khorjin design. This tribal-style rug boasts a rich rust background, beautifully complemented by a vibrant teal border. Crafted with meticulous attention to detail, this rug is truly a work of art.
Originating from Afghanistan, this rug is handwoven by skilled weavers, primarily from the Esari Subtribe. The wool used in this rug comes from sheep in the Ghazni Province of South East Afghanistan, where the mountainous terrain produces longer staple, oily, high-quality wool. The raw Ghazni wool is then brought to the western side of Afghanistan, near Herat, where it is hand-carded and hand-spun into carpet yarn.
Using traditional floor looms in their own homes, these weavers employ an asymmetrical "Persian" knot type. The rug features a cotton warp and weft, with the pile made entirely of wool. The double wefted, heavily packed depressed warp weaving technique ensures exceptional durability, making this rug a long-lasting addition to any space.
This stunning rug showcases centuries-old dyeing methods, with all-natural dye stuffs used to achieve the mesmerizing colors. In particular, the red hues in this rug are derived from natural madder root dyes. Madder root has been cultivated and utilized as a dyeing agent for centuries, resulting in warm and cool shades of red, orange, pink, and brown.
With a knot count of 80 knots per square inch, this rug demonstrates exceptional craftsmanship. In fact, our calculations indicate that there are a remarkable 521,298 individually hand-tied knots in total.
